Airbnb’s got a lot of filters.
Ever paid a visit to the site’s advanced search tab? Property specification options galore. You can stay in a bungalow, townhouse, villa or loft, make sure the listing comes with a hot tub, or go full tourist baron and demand only castles.
One filter that’s curiously not included, though? Sustainability. There is no database on Airbnb for energy-efficient homes. So the folks behind one of the site’s most famous, Finland’s Nolla Cabin, made one, naming it Zerobnb.

The Nolla Cabin, refresher, is a zero-footprint micro-cabin on an island 20 minutes outside of Helsinki. It was built by Neste, the world’s largest producer of renewable diesel, and it would seem Neste’s eager for other corporations to chip in on their off-the-grid efforts … starting with Airbnb.
In a sort of loving, eco-friendly blackmail, Neste plans to take its site down only once Airbnb adds “Sustainable home” to its list of filters. It’s a bit of a no-brainer, and we wouldn’t expect Zerobnb to have to be around too long. But for now, enjoy Zerobnb’s repository of igloos, cabins and cottages, spanning from Finland to Hawaii, each without a single CO2 emission to their name.
