Pete Davidson Reveals His Plans for the Retired Ferry He Just Bought

Back in January, it came to light that Saturday Night Live costars Pete Davidson and Colin Jost were joining forces offscreen to purchase a retired ferry — the Staten Island Ferry boat, the John F. Kennedy, to be exact — at auction. In conjunction with a handful of investors, the comedians were ultimately successful in securing the boat for a cool $280,100, according to The New York Times.

An appropriate purchase for the two Staten Island-natives, sure, though many were still invariably left wondering what might become of the decommissioned, 57-year old ferry.

“The reality is that everyone who came together on this has a sincere motive to see the right thing happen, to restore a piece of New York,” Paul Italia, a comedy club owner who was involved in the bidding, told The New York Times at the time of purchase. But while he hinted at a potential “an arts and entertainment venue,” no definitive answers were divulged.

That said, Pete Davidson is ready to offer some answers regarding “the windowless van of the sea,” and he confirmed that an entertainment venue is exactly what’s in his plans.

“There is going to be a bar, there is going to be a nice restaurant and … the lower level, the big space is going to be an entertainment space and we’re going to dock it in the city,” Davidson said in an interview with People last week.

In the meantime, with the ferry’s exact resting place in the city yet to be determined, it’s hanging out in Staten Island’s St. George Ferry Terminal, which is quite literally behind Davidson’s house.

“As a joke I took a picture and I was like, ‘Lol. Wouldn’t be funny if one of these was ours’ then they texted me back and circled it and they were like ‘That’s actually the one,’” he told People. “It’s literally in my yard.”

Despite his near constant presence in the media of late thanks to his romance with Kim Kardashian, Davidson is still erring on the side of caution where his latest investment is involved.

“It could all go to shit and I’ll be doing lots and lots of gigs next year,” the The King of Staten Island star said.
