After a pandemic-related slowdown, new hotels are opening in and around San Francisco at an impressive pace — making it easier than ever to catch a Warriors game (without driving home after), go to a business meeting in Silicon Valley (without driving home after) or see a show at the Pozo Saloon (you guessed it). With more than a few notable properties opening their doors in 2022, it just goes to show how the Bay Area remains as desirable a tourist destination as ever.

Ranging from the city itself to popular day trip spots like Yosemite and San Luis Obispo, we found some of the best new hotels in San Francisco (and, yes, some of them are a little outside San Francisco). Here are a few such places to check out, whether you are planning a trip to the Golden State, need a place to direct out-of-towners or are a local looking for a spot yourself.

The Line SF is a highly anticipated addition to the city.
LINE Hotel

The Line SF

San Francisco

Slated to open this fall in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, the Line SF is sure to be one of the best new hotels in San Francisco — and the most in demand, too. The property will offer 236 rooms on 12 floors and is centrally located and the design is comfortably modern. It’s located halfway between the Warfield and the Powell Street transit station, making entertainment and movement equally accessible. It’s also only a few blocks from some of the city’s most renowned museums, like SFMOMA and Yerba Buena Gardens. There will be four unique dining options within the hotel, including a rooftop solarium with panoramic views.

Luma Hotel

San Francisco

It wasn’t so long ago that Mission Bay was known as an industrial neighborhood. Now it’s home to the Chase Center and their Golden State Warriors, tech HQs, and now, its first hotel development. Luma Hotel opened in June, with 299 guest rooms and suites, many featuring excellent views of both the bay and the skyline. This is a top spot for tapping into the tech scene, especially for those needing to host meetings, but it’s just as valuable for visitors wanting easy access to events and games at the Chase Center or Oracle Park. In-room dining is currently sourced from nearby eateries, but guests will soon be able to grab cocktails and bites on the rooftop Sky Lounge.

The first Signia by Hilton hotel in California has opened in San Jose.

Signia by Hilton

San Jose

Signia by Hilton San Jose is the brand’s first hotel in California and the largest hotel in all of Silicon Valley. It’s a stylish, 805-room property that’s officially geared toward both business and leisure travelers, but it’s easy to think that the former will be extremely satisfied that they’re right in the thick of things. (The latter might be happy to hear that they’ll be right next to the San Jose Museum of Art, perfect for tapping into the cultural heartbeat of the region.) The elegant lobby features a welcoming bar, and by early 2023 the Main Tower modernization will be complete. Look out for the opening of the rooftop pool sometime this year.

Wildhaven Yosemite

Yosemite  Valley

Wildhaven is a popular glamping spot in Sonoma County now exporting its signature experiences to the Yosemite area, just outside Mariposa. Their brand new under-canvas options will be available to book this fall, beginning with 40 glamping tents. Forty more will follow over the course of the next two years. Though they have yet to launch the Yosemite-specific website, the existing Sonoma site gives an idea of what it’s like to camp in a safari-style tent with Wildhaven. Yoga classes, a store and hot showers are to be expected.

Nomada Hotel Group, Central Coast

San Luis Obispo

Three unique accommodations are slated to open in San Luis Obispo County this year, all by the well-known Nomada Hotel Group. Pozo will revive the Old West spirit as an encampo-style destination near Santa Margarita Lake, with 30 accommodations ranging from Airstreams to upscale tents and RV hookups. The property will also boast a distillery, central pool, outdoor soaking tubs and full-service restaurant, all around the historic Pozo Saloon.

In August, Farmhouse will open in Paso Robles as a bed-and-breakfast-style hotel with 26 separate cottages within walking distance of downtown. Also in Paso Robles, River Lodge is slated to open in November 2022 as a wine-centric escape with 27 accommodations around a large central pool.
