Sunshine, ocean views and construction cranes: You’d be hard pressed to go a day in Miami without seeing at least two of the three. And the latter, it could be said, is the result of the prior. It’s the sunshine and ocean views that turned Miami into one of the country’s most popular cities to visit, live, work and party — and the millions of people drawn here need places to spend the night.
And while this interest in Miami is nothing new, the sheer number of new and coming-soon hotels would suggest the pace is increasing. Among those hotels there is, perhaps unsurprisingly in this town, a tilt towards the high end, with several anticipated openings from luxury hotel brands on the horizon.
Most notably is Aman Miami Beach, which is set to open a 56-suite beachfront hotel, a low-rise tower of branded residences and an outpost of the members-only Aman Club in the Faena District in 2024. Shortly after, in 2025, monied fashion brand Bvlgari is slated to debut its first US hotel in a revamped 1950s building in Miami Beach’s Art Deco Historic District. Also in 2025, and slightly more affordable by comparison, will be the huge, 800-room Grand Hyatt at the Miami Beach Convention Center and the long delayed Virgin Hotels Miami, whose 40-story, new-from-the-ground-up building will house 250 rooms, a three-story terraced rooftop with a pool, and 15 floors of residential units.
You don’t have to wait to enjoy some of the city’s best new hotels, though. The following selection of recently opened properties are ready to welcome locals and out-of-towners alike with pools, events and new restaurants. So check them out, and if you already call Miami home but are looking for a change of pace, check in.
Arlo Wynwood
Wynwood, Miami’s trendy arts district, is home to some of the city’s buzziest, shops, bars and eateries. It’s also home to over 250 galleries, the largest concentration of street art in the world, and now, its very first hotel. Opened on Nov. 1, just in time for Art Basel, the brand new, 217-room Arlo Wynwood calls itself a “living canvas for artists” and features multi-story murals on its exterior and 250 works of art throughout. Poised to become a go-to neighborhood hub for guests and locals alike, the hotel will have a robust events calendar with a mix of free and ticketed offerings including intimate concerts, yoga and dance classes, and meditation sessions. The sleek rooftop pool deck is sure to be a prime location for such events, in addition to being the best spot to simply lounge with a drink. Speaking of drinks, you’ll be in good hands as the hotel’s food and beverage program is run by the collective behind Broken Shaker, a three-time “Top 50 Bars in the World” award-winner. For food, check out Arlo Wynwood’s signature restaurant, MaryGold’s, a Florida-inspired brasserie helmed by James Beard “Best Chef: South” nominee and Food & Wine “Best New Chefs in America” alumnus Brad Kilgore.
CitizenM Miami Brickell & CitzenM Miami World Center
Already well known for packing a punch with their colorful, comfortable and artful common spaces, CitizenM Miami Brickell automatically felt at home in Miami when it opened in mid-August. This was aided, in part, by a massive piece of exterior artwork on the building’s facade from Miami-based artist Jen Stark, and the hotel hosting an open call to discover local artists whose works could permanently adorn the guest room walls. Throughout those 252 guest rooms, which are small but feature-packed, you’ll also find one of CitizenM’s signature XL king beds, a wall-to-wall window and a MoodPad tablet to control everything from the blinds to the temperature to the room’s colorful ambient lighting. Down in the lobby, and as in every CitizenM hotel, there’s plenty of space to lounge, socialize, work and dine on light bites from CanteenM cafe. For outdoor socializing, you’ll have access to a still-to-debut rooftop lounge and pool, as well as an endless list of nearby restaurants and shops to explore.
And since CitizenM thought one hotel in Miami just wouldn’t be enough, the brand’s second property, the 351-room CitizenM Miami World Center, will open February 1, 2023.
Loews Coral Gables Hotel
Opened at the beginning of November, Loews Coral Gables Hotel marks the brand’s second property in the Miami area (their other being the longstanding Loews Miami Beach Hotel). Located within The Plaza Coral Gables, a new, 2.1 million-square-foot development also home to retail, restaurant, office and residential space, the Loews Coral Gables boasts 242 guest rooms, including 23 suites, a sizable spa and gym, and a 9,000-square-foot ballroom. The real showstopper, however, is the 9th-floor rooftop pool, lined with loungers and cabanas (which non-hotel guests can enjoy with the purchase of a day pass). Pool adjacent and providing food and drink service to cabana guests is Phineas, a restaurant and bar serving Latin-inspired small plates and craft cocktails. Throughout the hotel, you’ll also have three additional food and beverage offerings to choose from, including informal fine dining at Americana Kitchen, classic cocktails at the lobby’s Americana Bar, and grab-and-go coffee, pastries and sandwiches from Miami Joe Coffee Co.
