After offering hot sports takes all day on ESPN, Stephen A. Smith will get a chance to show off his cool side when he guest hosts an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live that is set to air on Monday night.
With guests Snoop Dogg and Allyson Felix along with musical guest Nelly, Smith should have some pretty good material to work with in his first shot at late-night TV. As Smith previously told InsideHook, being a late-night host is on his career to-do list.
“I can’t say enough about the job that Arsenio Hall did hosting a late-night show. The job Trevor Noah does on Comedy Central, to be an African American in that position, I think that’s a space that’s needed and it’s a space I could fill one day,” Smith said. “Not right now because I’ve got these obligations, but down the line, in a few years, do I want to host my own late-night television show like Stephen Colbert, Jay Leno, David Letterman and the late great Johnny Carson did? Absolutely. That’s what I really want to do someday, if I can pull it off. If I can’t, I’ll find something else to want. Who knows what the future possibilities hold.”
Smith certainly seems serious about expanding his media presence and growing his brand away from ESPN. Per the Daily News, Smith just finished wrapping an episode of ABC’s Black-ish which will air at a later date and also continues appearing on the long-running daytime soap opera General Hospital.
Kimmel has been on a sabbatical from hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live since July.
