Recent observation on the part of your correspondent: there is a lot of dope Grateful Dead collab merch going around these days. From coolers to to streetwear to fuzzy Nike Dunks, Jerry & Co. are very much having a cultural moment, and we at InsideHook are here for it.
Our favorite new entry: a capsule collection from the merino wizards at Smartwool, featuring artwork from illustrator/pro skier Chris Benchetler. Benchetler is a full-fledged head and the mastermind behind Teton Gravity Research’s recent Dead-centric ski/snowboard/surf film “Fire on the Mountain,” which is a fantastic way to kill half an hour and a lovely reminder that narrator Bill Walton 100% got into some super weird shit in the early 1970s:
The Smartwool collection features several of their signature merino base layers sporting Benchetler’s work, as well as two pairs of socks — one everyday, one ski-focused. Anyone familiar with Smartwool gear will tell you that their stuff is built to last as long as Bill’s love for “New Speedway Boogie” and keep you warm and toasty the entire time. Pieces are limited-edition though, so you best boogie quick.
