As you might well know if you’ve ever read any of our coverage ever, we’re Phoebe Bridger stans. Her songs slap, obviously, and her taste level and attention to detail in terms of her musical choices is unparalleled. The LA-based, Grammy-nominated artist rakes in 6 million monthly listeners on Spotify, launched her own label in 2020 and has taken on the likes of Eric Clapton and David Crosby on the reg. What’s not to like?

If all of Bridgers’ accolades weren’t enough, she’s also a downright elite dresser with an innate sense for affected androgyny who serves as a muse for some of the hottest designers on planet earth — most notably, Thom Browne and Gucci. Her most recent ‘fit is further validation of this part of her appeal. Bridgers’ attended Billboard’s Women in Music Awards in an off-white, Alessandro Gucci-designed power suit fit for a menswear king … or queen. Complete with lug-soled loafers and a ruffled, sleeveless top, Bridgers took home not only the Trailblazer Award but the prestigious InsideHook’s Best Dressed award.

She’s been photographed in Italian-label lapels before, but this suiting move in particular is so excellent because it fully proves our long-standing claim that spring suits are a flex, and that a neutral-colored suit is the flexiest flex of them all. Spring suiting is just a general no-brainer, as temps rise and fabrics to the tune of linen, seersucker or even terrycloth become viable options. A stark suit is the perfect way to embrace a whole new season of possibilities, especially when done up right, à la Ms. Bridgers.

Ideally, you’re looking for something that doesn’t take itself too seriously and wouldn’t look out of place on the Riviera or the runway. In fact, high fashion is a great place to search for further examples: even at the most recent MFW, crisp tailoring made appearances on women at the likes of Gucci (duh) and Dior.

A subtle-toned button-down, or better yet, breezy sweater polo, is a great way to keep things casual, as is some less than formal footwear — funky loafers are preferred, and we’ll even give the pass to elevated sneakers. Still a bit tentative? Just remember: be generous with fit and stay the fuck away from marinara.
