Summer’s about adding a little color to your life.
Emphasis on a little — you don’t have to go full Jimmy Buffett to enjoy sunny days and summer nights.
Witness Onia, a New York-based brand that foregoes loud colors and open toes for a minimalist line of carefully colorful swimwear, polos and — just now — the ideal summer slip-on.
Wondering about the brand name? It ties into the brand’s travel-friendly aesthetics: Onia means sailboat in Hebrew, “an object that exemplifies this functional, well-crafted beauty.”
Onia does a good job mixing practical everyday wares with unconventional details, all while still utilizing good fabrics and construction. Take their unstructured Hugo Linen Blazer, a single-breasted, unlined coat with an oversized fit, patch pockets and Japanese horn buttons. Built for summer, they encourage you to roll up the sleeves.
Of greatest import, though? The New York-based company just launched its inaugural line of men’s footwear, including an elevated take on espadrilles, available in either linen or suede, reinforced on the interior and finished with a rubber sole. On the suede ones, you can even collapse the back and wear it as a slide for a more casual look.
Onia also offers the Montrose, a water-resistant, lightweight sneaker with an upper made from the company’s swim fabrication and a slip-proof rubber sole. There are several color options, but nothing that would get you thrown out of, say, a nice restaurant.
In other words, it’s the closest you can get to “no shirts, no shoes” while still receiving service.
Note: A few of the espadrilles are part of Onia’s Father’s Day sale, where you can grab $25 off with the code GIFT25.
