We may have just begun the dog days of summer, but the fine folks at L.L. Bean are already gearing up for the fall season ahead. The Maine-based label just released its latest foliage-forward collection, dubbed the Mountains Classic Collection. Revisiting the original 1992 Mountain Classic styles, the unisex release ushers in a bundle of functional styles, from revised staples to lightweight layers, with a focus on fun detailing and practical construction that drives the outdoorsy-chic L.L. Bean ethos.
The collection pays homage to its 30-year-old predecessor, with styles, colorways and patterns reprised from the original 1992 release, centering around the woven alpine trim taping on the original ’92 Anorak. Inspired gear, like the Fleece Sherpa Hybrid Sweater ($99), Mountain Classic Five-Panel Hat ($30) and Classic Ventilated Hiking Shoes ($109) make appearances in fall-ready materials and hues, but the real highlight of the capsule is undoubtedly the return of the 1912 Colorblock Anorak Sweatshirt ($79), a striped, four-button pullover that emulates ’90s charm with its vivid blocking and relaxed fit.
“There’s something nostalgic about the taping and pattern play, whether customers recognize it from the original Anorak or have just seen it today,” L.L.Bean Senior Designer Amy Yeo said in a recent interview with the heritage label. Further discussing the collection’s inspiration, Yeo explained the desire to mimic the original Mountain Classics Release; “We really wanted to go back to that key 1992 colorway, which is threaded throughout the entire collection, from outerwear to outdoor equipment.”
The L.L. Bean Mountain Classics Collection retails from $17-$149 and is available now at L.L. Bean’s website and select in-store locations, with additional styles dropping through the fall season.
