Amid steeply dropping sales numbers and abandonment of big-named retailers like Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, Ivanka Trump’s clothing line is being secretly relabeled and sold at discount stores.

G-III, the company that owns the license to manufacture and distribute Ivanka Trump’s line, has been renaming the Trump inventory as “Adrienne Vittadini Studio” and selling it to off-brand retailer Stein Mart, which has about 300 locations around the U.S. It’s possible the clothing has been sold to other retailers, but that’s not been confirmed.

According to Business of Fashion, G-III, which owns other brands like DKNY, swapped the labels without informing the Ivanka Trump brand. The company said it accepts responsibility for “any mistakenly mislabelled merchandise” and that the Trump brand “continues to grow and remains very strong.”

Relabelling inventory is common in the fashion industry and it’s perfectly legal. It’s often done to protect a brand’s reputation that might otherwise be diminished if sold at a discount retailer like Stein Mart. However, Business of Fashion reports Stein Mart has been selling the relabelled products alongside Ivanka Trump inventory for a while.
