You know Tony Romo spends his days working as an analyst for CBS’s pro football coverage. This weekend, viewers might expect to see and hear Romo providing his take as the Chicago Bears take on the Minnesota Vikings. The siren song of another sport might keep Romo out of the broadcast booth for that one, however.
It turns out football isn’t the only sport Romo is good at. Golf Channel is reporting that Romo’s performance in the opening round of the Safeway Open was particularly notable: specifically, 2-under 70.
The second round of the Safeway Open kicks off on Friday; if Romo advances from there, odds are that he won’t be available to take part in CBS’s coverage of the Bears-Vikings game.
While Romo still remains a longshot to win the Safeway Open, his first-round performance put him in good company. Golf Channel’s report provides some excellent context:
Romo’s scorecard included five birdies against three bogeys, and he rolled in 122 feet worth of putts. He was the low man in his threesome, beating playing partner Beau Hossler by four shots and Michael Gellerman by seven shots. His opening-round score also beat Hideki Matsuyama (Even) as well as last week’s winner Sebastian Munoz (1 under) and defending champ Kevin Tway (1 under).
Romo still has a difficult task before him, but his impressive showing is laudable regardless. Is it too soon to propose a “Bo Knows”-esque ad campaign?
