When San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch attempts to make a trade, he apparently goes all in. That includes trying to snag Tom Brady, perhaps the best quarterback of all time, not even a year after he lead the only franchise he’s every played for to the biggest Super Bowl comeback in the history.
Before finally acquiring New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, Lynch apparently threw a Hail Mary of a trade request for Brady at Bill Belichick.
“Did you just ask me if I would trade Tom Brady?” a stunned Belichick asked Lynch, according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer. “Did you just ask if I’d trade the greatest quarterback of all time?”
Safe to say Belichick was having none of it.
Brady, however, was more measured in his response to the news.
“I mean, everyone has the opportunity to go to another team or get traded, or cut, or released,” Brady said, via WEEI.com. “I have played with so many great players that that has happened to, several times, and coaches too. Player movement is not new to anyone. You try and play well and try and add value to the team and you try and be a great player and if you’re not a great player for the team you are on then you try and be a great player for the other team that you are on.”
Brady won’t be able to enjoy his hometown San Francisco weather during the season any time soon, but he’ll at least he’s on track to compete for yet another Super Bowl: his Patriots are tied for the best record in the AFC, while the 49ers are 0–9.
The greatest of all time will probably take that.
