Is the world ready for President Gregg Popovich? Steve Kerr certainly thinks so.

The Golden State Warriors head coach made his case for Popovich on Wednesday, saying his former mentor and current San Antonio Spurs head coach would exemplify the best qualities in a U.S. president.

“Honesty and integrity,” Kerr said of Popovich. “Those would be two really key components for any person that wants to become president. Honesty and integrity would be fantastic to see. He would provide that.”

Both Kerr and Popovich have been open critics of current president Donald Trump, with Popovich going so far as to say that the country has become an “embarrassment” under Trump’s leadership. The NBA coaching veteran is never afraid to speak his mind and has often denounced the tone and tenor of President Trump in the White House.

“You’ve got a choice: we can continue to bounce our heads off the wall at this conduct, or we can decide that our institutions are more important, our people are more important, that the decent America that we thought we all had and want is more important, and get down to business at the grassroots level and do what we have to do,” Popovich said at a recent press conference.

Kerr played under Popovich for two San Antonio Spurs titles, in 1999 and 2003, and has called him one of his biggest mentors.

“I truly would vote for Pop. He would make a great president,” Kerr said Wednesday. “All jokes aside. I would vote for him.”
