The former Syracuse Orange football player who has hosted every single episode of NFL RedZone since its debut on September 13, 2009, is returning to his post in the midst of his employer cutting costs to make itself attractive to potential investors, Front Office Sports reports.

Coming off a one-year deal precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic and set to be a coveted free agent on the NFL media landscape, Scott Hanson has signed a multi-year contract extension with NFL Media Group to continue hosting his signature show on the NFL Network.

In addition to hosting the show, 50-year-old Hanson will maintain a major role in coverage of marquee NFL events including the Super Bowl, NFL Draft and NFL Scouting Combine.

“You guys wanna watch football together for next few years?” Hanson wrote on Twitter. “Fired up to pop that #octobox / hit the #witchinghour / and call out “7 HOURS OF COMMERCIAL-FREE FOOTBALL” come @NFL Week 1. #NFLRedZone … PS: The sex reference was what OTHER people have said in the past. (NOT my direct quote.) I’m gonna be in trouble w my Mom about that.”

He also posted some gratitude.

Hanson’s deal with the NFL Media Group (which includes NFL Network, RedZone and NFL.com) comes on the heels of the company recently parting ways with veteran journalists Michael Silver and Mark Kriegel as well as managing news and features editor John Marvel.

In addition to Hanson being a popular figure amongst fantasy football players and sports bettors alike, one of the reasons the NFL Media Group may have kept him is he is a true company man who deliberately dehydrates himself before going on the air and has taken just a single bathroom break in the last decade while working on the air.

“I am convinced that if I leave I will hear, ‘Lamar Jackson with the most dynamic 99-yard touchdown in NFL history.’ And I’m not going to miss it,” he told Front Office Sports in December 2020. “I will not expose myself to missing the great play that day, that week, that month, that season or historically. I do not want to miss a play. The only thing that could cause me to miss one is a bathroom break. So I don’t take them.”

Bad for Hanson’s kidneys; good for fans of the “Witching Hour.”
