Redskins Exec on Signing of Alleged Domestic Abuser: "This Is Small Potatoes"

If Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has any sense, he will put a gag order on his team’s senior vice president of player personnel.

However, considering Snyder’s team still has the name that it does, it seems more than likely he’ll allow Doug Williams to keep talking.

Days after adding domestic abuse suspect Reuben Foster to the team’s roster – and catching hell for it – Williams spoke to The Team 980 about the addition of the former first-rounder to the club’s roster.

In his defense of the signing, Williams somehow equated Foster’s behavior with the actions of someone else, presumably President Trump.

“We got people who are in high, high, high, high places that have done far worse, if you look at it realistically. And they’re still up there,” Williams said. “This is small potatoes [compared to] a lot of things out there. But at the same time, it’s a big issue in America today, whether or not it’s in football, whether or not it’s in everyday life, whether or not it’s in politics, it’s out there.”

Williams then excused away the signing by saying other teams had done worse.

“I’ve got six daughters, so it ain’t something I would condone,” Williams said, via ESPN.com. “But at the same time, I think we are in the business of at least looking into [Foster’s case]. I could sit here, and I won’t, name a bunch of teams that took on players that got a lot of baggage that nobody’s saying anything about.”

Foster, who was arrested on domestic violence charges before the 49ers released him, is still being investigated by the NFL and is not eligible to play for the team at this time. But, by keeping him on the roster, the Redskins are ensuring he will play for the team next season (if eligible).
