During the third quarter of Game 1 of the 2008 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce was brought to the locker room on a wheelchair under curious circumstances.
No one was sure what exactly was wrong with the All-Star scorer or if he would be able to return to the game. But Pierce did return and went on to score 22 points while shooting .700 from the field, leading Boston to a 98-88 win and a 1-0 lead in the series. The Celtics went on to win the title in six games.
Last night, during ESPN’s pregame coverage of Game 3 of the NBA Finals, The Truth finally came clean about that wheelchair incident.
According to Pierce, he wasn’t hurt but was having a bathroom emergency.

After Pierce first made the comments, he added fuel to the fire with this tweet:

However, afterward, he seemed to backtrack on what he’d hinted at earlier in the evening while also taking a shot at the Lakers.

Pierce, 41, played 19 seasons in the NBA and retired in 2017.
