President Trump’s new trade deal scored a lot of points with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
After terms of Trump’s new USMCA agreement – a revised version of the North American Free Trade Agreement pact – were announced, Goodell expressed his gratitude to Trump for the deal.
Odd on the surface because of the league’s odd relationship with the president, Goodell felt the need to thank Trump because the deal resolves an issue with how the Super Bowl was broadcast in Canada.
Previously, Canadian regulatory officials required CTV to include American commercials during the broadcast, preventing Canadian broadcasters from selling their own ads.
That issue, which prevented the NFL from generating even more money, has been resolved.
“We greatly appreciate President Trump’s leadership and determination in bringing about a resolution to our intellectual property issue in Canada,” Goodell said in a written statement.
