When New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. sat out Week 1 and broke the hearts of many a fan and fantasy owner, the team’s loss to NFC East arch-rivals the Dallas Cowboys could sort of be explained away.
Then again, Super Bowl–winning quarterback Eli Manning threw up a doughnut in the touchdown column that game, with the team mustering just a single field goal on the scoreboard in the 19-3 loss.
But after the team’s 24-10 loss on Monday Night Football to the resurgent Detroit Lions—a game in which Beckham, Jr. was back in the fold—fans and experts alike are starting to grumble about the now-last-place squad.
Could this be the season the Giants finally reach a nadir?
Bleacher Report‘s Sean Tomlinson even wonders out loud whether the team could “become one of the NFL’s worst teams” and if this might spell the end of the Manning era. There might be some truth to it, too. After Monday’s loss, Giants coach Ben McAdoo blamed a failed comeback on Manning’s “sloppy quarterback play.”
Mind you, the Giants aren’t the only team that has started off the season at 0-2. Also included on that list are crosstown club the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Chargers, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and San Francisco 49ers.
RealClearLife‘s fantasy football experts might say don’t panic just yet if you have Manning or Beckham, Jr. on your rosters. But then again, fantasy isn’t reality.
