They didn’t hit.

They didn’t draw walks.

But thanks to a tiebreaker rule that’s used in the minors during extra innings, the Clearwater Threshers did win their game against the Tampa Tarpons.

During the second game of a doubleheader — Clearwater won the first – the Threshers and Tarpons were both scoreless following the seventh inning.

Entering the eighth — which counts as extra innings in the minors during doubleheaders  — the Threshers started with a man on second as per MILB rules.

The runner advanced to third on an error by Tampa’s shortstop and then scored when Clearwater second baseman Daniel Brito hit into a fielder’s choice with a ground ball to first base.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Tarpons couldn’t push a run across despite starting with a runner at second base of their own.

Thanks to the error, the Tarpons weren’t credited with a perfect game but the team still did have a no-hitter in the loss.
