After knocking off the Cubs in Chicago on Monday, the Milwaukee Brewers will be able to take tomorrow off and relax.
The Cubs, however, after falling 3-1 at Wrigley Field, will be playing the loser of this afternoon’s Dodgers/Rockies game in a wild-card matchup on Tuesday.
On the bright side for the Cubs, they’ll be the hosts of the game once again.
That didn’t help them much on Monday as the visitors jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the third and then struck again for two runs in the eighth after the Cubs were able to tie.
Using five pitchers, Milwaukee combined to strike out eight Cubs hitters while walking only three.
Entering in the eighth with that slim two-run lead, reliever Josh Hader retired the first five batters he faced and then gave up a single. Anthony Rizzo stepped to the plate as the tying run, but Hader induced him to flyout.
Though they get somewhat of a mulligan by getting to play tomorrow, if the Cubs fail to deliver again at home, it’ll be time for them to hibernate for the winter.
