Mike Tyson retired from professional boxing in 2005, but the so-called “Baddest Man on the Planet” still has his power and speed. The 53-year-old Tyson posted a training video on Twitter on Friday, and Iron Mike has still got it:
I’m a Bad Boy for Life. Watch #BadBoysforLife now on DVD Blueray @realmartymar #willsmith #stillthebaddestmanontheplanet pic.twitter.com/R9Zmz19GFm
— Mike Tyson (@MikeTyson) May 1, 2020
The video was part of a promotional campaign with Sony for the Will Smith/Martin Lawrence vehicle Bad Boys For Life, but TMZ confirmed with his representatives that the video was recent, taken this week. Tyson hasn’t fought professionally since quitting in the seventh round of his fight against Kevin McBride on June 11, 2005.
However, Tyson has been considering staging exhibition fights in recent years, telling rapper T.I. in April that he wants to get in shape to help raise money for charity:
I want to go to the gym and get in shape to be able to box 3 or 4 round exhibitions for some charities and stuff. Some charity exhibitions, make some money, help some homeless and drug-affected motherfuckers like me.
Given how he looks in the training video posted on Friday, it shouldn’t be too difficult to get to a level where he can put on lower-intensity fights to help raise money. He may not be able to fight professionally anymore, nor does he seem to want to do that, but Tyson still has some of the ferocity that made him one of the most terrifying and exhilarating boxers of all time.
