Never one to keep his opinion to himself, Hall of Famer Michael Irvin has come out in support of how the HOF is choosing to handle a situation involving another outspoken ex-NFL wide receiver.
At the National Fantasy Football Convention over the weekend, Irvin said he agrees with the Hall’s decision not to individually recognize Terrell Owens during next month’s induction ceremony because he will not be in attendance and called it the “the right move.”
Miffed at not being inducted on his first ballot, Owens said last month after being selected on a subsequent ball that he wouldn’t be attending when his bust is unveiled in Canton.
After getting that news, the HOF then indicated Owens’ name will be included when the whole class is announced and his gold jacket will be mailed to him, but he won’t be individually recognized during next month’s ceremony.
It’s petty on both sides … and apparently, Irvin is on board with it.
“T.O.’s doing his own thing wherever he’s doing his own thing, and God bless him,” Irvin said over the weekend. “When they mention it as a class, they’ll mention him. But why should you steal those other guys’ moment because of the decision of this one?”
Instead of attending the induction ceremony, Owens will speak at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he played his college ball.
