When LeBron James speaks, people listen. That includes when he posts on social media, which is why the NBA superstar had players, fans, and analysts alike abuzz when he put a cryptic meme from the children’s TV show “Arthur” on his Instagram feed following a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
But when asked about the post, which showed a close-up of Arthur’s closed fist with the word “Mood…” under it, James was mum on the details.
“I like Arthur,” James said, when he was asked to explain the post after putting up 30 points, nine assists and eight rebounds against the Bucks, according to ESPN. “That’s OK, right?”
A plethora of theories sprouted after the post, which is how you know the NBA’s social media presence is so much further ahead than the other leagues. Some believed James was simply frustrated with his team’s play after a rough start to the season. Others think it was directed at former teammate Kyrie Irving, whose Boston Celtics had just won its ninth straight game. Was it a sign he was drained about his situation in Cleveland, or did it have to do with something off the court?
Whatever the case may be, we won’t know from James, who was essentially silent on the subject.
Let a thousand theories bloom.
