Approximately four years after leaving her role hosting a show on Fox Sports for more money and a less certain role at ESPN, Katie Nolan is no longer employed by The Worldwide Leader.
Nolan, who got a $1 million annual deal from ESPN but was never featured on the network in a prominent role and bounced around from one show to another (including Always Late and Highly Questionable) as well as hosted the Sports? podcast, made the announcement herself on Twitter on Wednesday.
“This year of slowing down has affected me on a cellular level. If you listen to the podcast this isn’t news to you. What’s next for me is to figure out how/where/when this new me can use the skills the old me acquired to make the stuff I think needs making. And maybe a vacation?” she added. “To the most beleaguered podcast fans in the game: Thank you, for all of it. Seeing you be decent and hilarious with each other online is the best evidence I have that I’m on a path worth walking. You rule. If you’re still here when I get back, I won’t forget that. LYMI.”
Clearly popular with her peers, Nolan’s note was greeted with well-wishes from current ESPN personalities including Field Yates, Mina Kimes and Matthew Berry.
Nolan, 34, will probably have a host of suitors as her mix of humor, sports savvy and stage presence is an appealing blend that could work across a variety of media platforms. While she probably won’t be headed back to FS1, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Nolan surface in some way, shape or form with Barstool Sports as she has some previous ties to the ever-growing media company.
