The horse justified the hype.
Justify finished first in the 150th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday and in the process became only the 13th horse in history to win the Triple Crown.
And Justify left no doubt about its right to history, Justify racing from the first post position and leading for the entire race. Gronkowski, named after the New England Patriots star, finished in second place, while Hofburg came in third.
It was a historic day all around. The win also marks the second time that Bob Baffert has trained a Triple Crown winner, making him only the second trainer ever to have achieved that distinction twice and coming just three years his American Pharoah managed the rare feat. (Affirmed had been the last horse to win a Triple Crown back in 1978.)
