Though it wasn’t by his longtime former employer ESPN, veteran sportscaster Trey Wingo is still covering the NFL Draft.
Wingo, who had been the face of the Worldwide Leader’s NFL Draft coverage until leaving the network in November following his exit from ESPN Radio over the summer, will lead coverage of the 2021 draft for Fox Sports. (Mike Greenberg will take over for Wingo as the new host of ESPN’s draft coverage.)
“Wingo, who hosted the draft for ESPN the past few years, will lead Fox Sports’ coverage as it produces a draft party across its digital and social media platforms during the first round on Thursday,” per The New York Post.
An ESPNer for more than two decades, 57-year-old Wingo succeeded Chris Berman as the main host of the network’s annual coverage of the draft.
Analysts Jordan Palmer, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Geoff Schwartz, RJ Young and Jason McIntyre will join Wingo for the FOX Sports Draft Watch Party, as will former NFL quarterbacks Eli Manning and Michael Vick.
The lineup of analysts will offer “position-by-position breakdowns and looks at how the first-round picks impact the upcoming NFL season,” per a release from Fox. Wingo will also sit down with Manning and talk to the former No. 1 overall selection about his draft day experience as well as solicit advice for the quarterbacks in this year’s class.
“Having trained or interviewed many of the players in this year’s class, Jordan, T.J., RJ and Geoff have first-hand knowledge of these prospects and can provide fans with unique insights and expertise,” said Fox Sports executive VP David Katz. “We’re especially excited to welcome Trey Wingo – no stranger to the draft – as our host, as he not only guides the conversation but also provides his own analysis throughout the evening.”
In addition to being available on FoxSports.com, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, coverage of the draft will air on ESPN, ABC and the NFL Network.
