First reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has agreed to a $54.5 million extension with the Cardinals that will keep him in Arizona through the 2024 season.
Hopkins, who negotiated the deal himself, got $42.5 million in guaranteed money at the signing and is now the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
The Cardinals traded for Hopkins in March in a lopsided deal with the Houston Texans that saw the Cardinals get rid of declining running back David Johnson in addition to a second-round pick and a 2021 fourth-round selection.
The team gave Hopkins a no-trade clause and a no-franchise tag clause in the deal so he will be in Arizona for the foreseeable future catching passes from breakout candidate Kyler Murray.
Since being selected 27th overall in the 2013 draft, Hopkins has the third-most receiving yards and catches, second-most touchdowns and most targets in the NFL.
The 28-year-old star had 1,165 yards and seven touchdown catches last season — his third straight 1,000-yard season and his fifth in six years.
Elsewhere in the NFL, the Cleveland Browns gave running back Kareem Hunt a two-year extension that’s worth $13.25 million.
After the extension was announced, Hunt posted on his Instagram account.
