Christian McCaffrey, who finished with more than 1,000 yards rushing and receiving this season, was such a dual-threat during the NFL’s regular season that The Associated Press named him to the All-Pro team at two positions.
McCaffrey, who had 1,387 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground and also caught 116 passes for 1,005 yards and four additional touchdowns this season, made the AP’s team both as a running back and as the team’s top flex player.
(The flex player designation was created in 2016 to “reward players who epitomize the way offense is now played in pro football.”)
It was a great season for McCaffrey as he tied for the league lead in total touchdowns with Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones with 19 and became the third player in NFL history to finish with at least 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in the same season.
“It means a lot,″ McCaffrey said. ”It is a big honor and that is something that you don’t work hard for it, but when it comes you are really grateful and appreciative.”
Joining McCaffrey on the team as one of 14 first-time All-Pros was quarterback Lamar Jackson.
“When you get on the field and you get to the speed of what they run, it’s tough,″ safety Eric Weddle, who faced Jackson this season, said of the second-year star. ”I mean, some of the plays I didn’t know who had the ball because they run it so efficiently. (Jackson) is one of a kind; he’s pretty special.”
Along with McCaffrey and Jackson, WR Michael Thomas, CB Stephon Gilmore, DT Aaron Donald, LB Bobby Wagner, RG Zack Martin, K Justin Tucker, KR Cordarrelle Patterson, C Jason Kelce, WR DeAndre Hopkins, DE Chandler Jones, DT Cam Heyward, LG Quenton Nelson, DB Marcus Peters, DB Marlon Humphrey, S Tyrann Mathie, TE George Kittle, LT Ronnie Stanley, RT Ryan Ramczyk, DE T.J. Watt, LB Demario Davis, LB Eric Kendricks, CB ’Davious White, S Jamal Adams, S Minkah Fitzpatrick, P Brett Kern and KR Deonte Harris all made the team.
