When the Kansas City Chiefs begin the defense of their Super Bowl title in the NFL season opener on September 10 against the Houston Texans, the team plans to have fans in the stands at Arrowhead Stadium.
Ahead of the opener, which is now less than a month away, the Chiefs have finalized plans for a reduced capacity of approximately 22 percent at Arrowhead, according to the team’s website.
Fans must wear masks and follow distancing measures and the stadium will be subject to “enhanced cleaning and sanitization measures” before, during and after the game. There will be concessions, but they will be cashless and hand sanitizer will be readily available throughout the stadium. Tailgating will be permitted but proper distancing between groups and masks are encouraged.
Also, this is all subject to change. “As the season progresses, the club will follow the guidance of local officials and public health experts, with the potential that local regulations will allow for different capacities at different points during the season,” the team stated.
Elsewhere in the NFL, the Falcons have announced they will begin the season in Atlanta without fans in the stands while the Bears are still unsure if they will allow a crowd into Soldier Field in Chicago.
In Dallas, the Cowboys are planning to play with fans but it is still up in the air how many people will be allowed into 80,000-capacity AT&T Stadium.
“These are challenging and unprecedented times for our country, our community, and our Cowboys fans at home in Texas and all around the world,” said Dallas chief brand officer Charlotte Jones. “Amidst the difficulties brought on by COVID-19, our focus has been to safely bring football back to our community. We are deeply grateful for the patience, understanding, and support our fans have shown during these historic and turbulent times as we continue to prepare for a successful season.”
