In Upstate New York on Sunday, football fans began arriving in the parking lot outside Highmark Stadium to tailgate before a huge game between the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots.
Thing is, the game between the division rivals won’t take place until this evening when Monday Night Football airs.
For anyone who’s familiar with what generally happens outside Highmark Stadium before Buffalo games, it really shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that the table-breaking members of Bills Mafia showed up to party more than 24 hours before their team was set to take the field.
The temperature in the Buffalo area generally hits freezing overnight, but that wasn’t enough to prevent dozens of fans from braving the elements and camping out in the cold. Per WKBW, some of Sunday’s campers have been heading to the parking lots around Highmark Stadium to party overnight for more than a decade.
Buffalo fan Rick Genesse told the station that each year his crew shows up with “more and more equipment, better tents and heaters.”
“I didn’t know these guys before I started camping in this camper lot and now we’re all just great buddies,” Genesse said. “There’s nothing like being here. You’re right here at the stadium. Sometimes the Bills and the coaches come walking through.”
While it is kind of hard to imagine Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs or Sean McDermott dropping by to tailgate the night before a game, odd stuff that doesn’t occur in other NFL cities does seem to happen in Buffalo. That also extends to the weather at Highmark Stadium, which is expected to experience sustained winds between 25 to 35 mph on Monday and could welcome gusts as strong as 50 mph. Good luck to the kickers on both teams.
