The temper tantrum that got Sergio Garcia booted from the Saudi International tournament last week has also earned him a tongue-lashing from Brooks Koepka.
García was disqualified from the European Tour event after he left at least five greens with divots and scuff marks after taking his frustrations out on the putting surfaces during the third round.
Players behind him complained about the damages surfaces and one, Koepka, has teed off on him for it following the tournament.
“Ugh, it’s frustrating as a player to see, to act like that, to disrespect everybody,” Koepka said on the “Playing Through” podcast. “To act like a child out there is not cool. It’s not setting a good example and it’s not cool to us, showing us no respect or anybody else.”
Koepka, who finished tied for 57th in the event despite playing in front of Garcia, didn’t stop there.
“That’s just Sergio acting like a child,” he added. “It’s unfortunate that he’s got to do that and complain. Everybody’s got to play the same golf course. I didn’t play very good, but you didn’t really see anybody else doing that. You’re 40 years old so you gotta grow up eventually.”
Garcia, the 2017 Masters champion, apologized via a Tour statement at the time of the disqualification but has not really addressed the matter since.
