Before the season began, it was a widely held belief that a team from the AFC North would be playing in the AFC Championship game for the right to go to the Super Bowl.
Now, four weeks into the season, it seems like that thinking may be correct, albeit with a different team – or maybe even teams.
Tied atop the division at 3-1, the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens have been two of the most surprising teams in the NFL and both had huge wins against quality opponents in Week 4 in the Falcons and Steelers, respectively.
And unlike in years past, the Bengals and Ravens are getting things done on the offense instead of defense. Ranked at No. 4 and 5 in points per game, both squads are averaging more than 30 points scored through four games.
An impressive feat considering neither team’s quarterback – Andy Dalton for the Bengals and Joe Flacco for the Ravens – is considered to be elite or even approaching that level.
But elite or not, Dalton and Flacco have done enough to get the job and are both completing around 65 percent of their passes and have thrown for around 1,200 yards.
Taking on the Dolphins (Bengals) and Browns (Ravens) in Week 5, Cincinnati and Baltimore are poised to go to 4-1 and open an even bigger lead in the division of the presumptive AFC North winner, Pittsburgh.
But how do the power rankers from ESPN, NFL.com, and USA Today see it?
Find out in the first edition of RealClearLife‘s Ultimate NFL Power Rankings, which combine ratings from those three outlets to get a single rank for all 32 teams in NFL and use segmented tiers to arrange them.
