The Houston Astros went homered themselves right into the baseball history books.
According to ESPN, during last night’s epic 10-inning win, the ‘Stros had five different players homer over the course of the game, a World Series record. This, following the baseball season with the most home runs in history.
Alex Bregman, whose walk-off single was the game winner, commented after the game: “Who knows where this [game] ranks, right up there with [Game 2]—back and forth, the two best teams in baseball fighting to the very end and going toe to toe with each other. …Everybody was used on both teams, pretty much, every single player. It was special for us to come out on top.”
Besides the Astros home run record, along with the Dodgers’ pair of dingers in the game, the teams became the first in World Series history to hit 22 total homers. That inched the total number of homers hit during the postseason up to 101—a postseason record.
Remember: The Ringer argued that the World Series would come down to how the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw and Astros’ Justin Verlander performed. Kershaw’s stat line last night? The supposedly invincible hurler gave up six earned runs. Advantage, Houston.
