In a Hail Mary attempt to get himself back into the NFL, Antonio Brown made a public apology to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft on social media on Tuesday.
Brown posted a message to Kraft on Instagram and Twitter along with a picture of himself hugging Tom Brady which was taken during the single game he played for the Patriots.
“Mr.Kraft I apologize sincerely to you and your organization!” Brown wrote. “All I wanted to be was an asset to the organization; sorry for the bad media and the drama ! Thank you sincerely AB.”
The apology comes with regard to a Twitter rant Brown went on after being cut from the team during which he mentioned, among other things, Kraft getting charged with visiting an illicit massage parlor in Florida.
Though Brown, who is still trying to recoup a $5 million signing bonus from the team, was already cut by the team at that point, bringing up Kraft and the spa on social media seemingly severed any chance he had at returning to the team. “Kraft never writing that check, no matter what the ruling is now,” a source told ESPN.
Despite that, Brown has continued to post photos of himself wearing his Patriots jersey, many of which still garner likes from New England players, most notably Tom Brady.
The timing of today’s post and apology is quite interesting as it comes on the heels of Brady being visibly upset about the current state of his receiving corps as well as Rob Gronkowski confirming he will not be returning to the Patriots this season.
While Brown is not suspended from the NFL, he is still being investigated by the league after being accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. Brown met with the NFL last week for eight hours, though no official announcement regarding his status has been made.
