Pujols just smacked his 2,999th hit and is the cusp of joining the 3,000-hit club.

With only 31 members, Major League Baseball’s 3,000-hit club is one of the most exclusive groups in all of sports.

This weekend in Seattle, it is almost certainly going to welcome a new member: Albert Pujols.

The Los Angeles designated hitter smacked a two-run double for his 2,999th career hit on Thursday night during the Angels’ 12-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

The 38-year-old went hitless during his other three plate appearances, which means he’ll likely break into the 3,000-hit club this weekend at Safeco Field when the Angels play the Mariners.

When Pujols does reach the mark, he will join Hank Aaron as the only other player to have 600 doubles and 600 home runs among their 3,000 hits.

Though he’s been with the Angels for a long time at this point, Pujols had 2,073 of his hits with the Cardinals in St. Louis, where he started his career and played from 2001-11.
