A worthy way to mark the day.

Beaches, barbecues, Black Cats: all good ways to spend the 4th.

One more: picking up something from Oxgut, the Emeryville-based purveyor of home goods made with American heroes in mind.

Actual heroes. The firefighting kind.

The brand fabricates all of its goods — lounges, stools, chairs, dopp kits — from worn-out hoses collected from Bay Area firehouses.

Our favorite Independence Day-themed purchase: these red, white and blue door/floor mats that evoke Old Glory.

Pick up one of their hammocks while you’re at it — there’s no comfier way to guzzle backyard brews tomorrow.

Each piece — whether made from soft hose liner or super-sturdy retired fire hose — pays its own small tribute to the work of firemen who keep our homes safe.

And Oxgut donates a portion of the proceeds from every sale to The Children’s Burn Foundation, a California organization devoted to preventing burns and helping kids suffering from them.

Looks good. Does good.

And well worth your attention this holiday weekend.
