Alfa Romeo’s got one.
Maserati’s got one.
And now Lamborghini is joining its fellow Italian marques with a family-friendly SUV of its very own — a really, really fast one.
Set to be unveiled December 4th at an event in Lambo’s hometown of Sant’Agata Bolognese, the Urus is being branded as a “super sports utility vehicle” that will offer “unprecedented SUV performance, luxury and versatility” while retaining the “DNA of a Lamborghini sports car.”
While that description of the SSUV sounds good, it’s essentially corporate gobbledygook, which is why we were so happy to hear that Lamborghini R&D chief Maurizio Reggiani chimed in with some off-the-cuff claims about the brand’s biggest bull at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
“Our SUV will achieve more than 300 MPH (187 MPH) because it’s a Lamborghini. It’s our DNA,” Reggiani said, according to Motor Authority. “[We will] achieve the best lap time for an SUV on Nordschleife — this is a faster SUV. Urus is the really the future of Lamborghini [with] all the DNA of the Huracán, Aventador, and LM002.”
According to reports, the Urus will achieve all that speed thanks to a twin-turbocharged V8 delivering 650 ponies that will eventually have the option of being paired with an electric motor when Lamborghini releases a plug-in hybrid model of the SSUV further down the road. Those same reports put the starting price of the model at around $200,000.
Ideally more details about the Urus will leak out, but either way, we’re bullish on its prospects.
