The Alpha Centauri hydroplane’s creator calls it “impractical, woefully inefficient and terrifying.”
Capable of hitting speeds of up to 70 MPH (60 knots) on the water, the 750-HP Alpha-Centauri is powered by a 9.5-liter Chevy V8 engine mated to a two-stage Scott jet-drive and, if that’s not enough juice, the company also plans to offer an upgraded power package providing 1,000 HP.
With a canopy straight out of Top Gun, the Alpha Centauri can hold four people within its leather-lined bucket seats and entertain them with its Rockford-Fosgate speaker system — although hearing it over the roar of the big-block engine might be tough.
The watercraft’s designers have attempted to “combine the luxury of a superyacht tender with the speed of a hydroplaning raceboat” and want the Alpha Centauri to “be the Lamborghini Miura of the seas,” according to Boat International.
At $150,000, they’ve certainly put it in the Lamborghini range for price — and performance …
