Formed in Manchester, England, in the early 1980s, The Stone Roses rose to fame as part of the so-called “Madchester” scene, with the release of its eponymous debut in ’89. But the band had a short and sweet career, only releasing one other album. Long after its split, the band has come to influence countless other British acts—most notably fellow Mancunians Oasis, who saw tremendous success in the ’90s.
