Back in December 1963, a little four-piece out of Liverpool, England, called the Beatles—still two months away from their coming out party on The Ed Sullivan Show—released single “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” which went straight up to No. 1.
Its B-side? “I Saw Her Standing There,” which would end up peaking at No. 14. Both had appeared on the Beatles’ ’63 album, Please Please Me.
The song is a favorite live number of Sir Paul McCartney, and at last Friday’s gig at Madison Square Garden, out it came in all its glory—with an upgrade on rhythm and lead guitars.
The Beatles co-founder surprised the audience in attendance by bringing out fellow rock legend Bruce Springsteen and his longtime sideman, Steven Van Zandt, to play on “I Saw Her Standing There.” Watch the incredible footage above.
