Reckoning with the troubling beliefs of a friend or loved one is something nearly everyone has had to do at some point in their lives. It doesn’t matter if you’re world-famous or a recluse — odds are good that at that some point in your life, someone you’ve cared about has expressed a belief or opinion that you disagreed with on an epic level.
Lately, we’ve seen this play out in a number of arenas — including Patton Oswalt addressing his friendship with Dave Chappelle while also expressing his frustration with Chappelle’s transphobia. But Oswalt isn’t the only celebrity who’s recently spoken about high-profile friends with whom they disagree. Keith Richards has also touched on a similar subject, as it relates to another famed English guitarist.
That other guitarist would, of course, be Eric Clapton, who’s gotten far more attention for his anti-vaccine views lately than for anything else he’s done. As Consequence reports, Richards discussed Clapton on a recent episode of Rolling Stone’s Music Now.
In the interview, Richards spoke of his fondness for Clapton personally, before addressing the effects of the pandemic on their friendship. “This COVID thing, it’s split people up and it made people sometimes go awry for awhile, you know?” Richards said.
Richards also made his own views on the pandemic clear. “I just want to get rid of this damn thing, and the only way I can see is everybody does as doctor says,” he said.
