For me, Black Friday is a time to treat myself to a few things collecting dust in my “Buy When on Sale” browser folder. I came across this jacket at some point in the past few months and immediately fell in love with it. And the creepy AF internet gods were onto me: from that point on, I’ve seen ads for it on what seems like every website I visit. I still haven’t pulled the trigger, but it’s even more tempting now that it’s 20% off through Monday. It is, as its name suggests, a winter-appropriate version of the classic military jacket, with a full lining, a stowable hood and a shearling collar. Swoon.

Yes, “that chair,” designed in 1956 by Ray and Charles Eames in an effort to “recreate the warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman’s mitt.” It’s been often imitated but never duplicated, and while I don’t own one, I have had the pleasure of sitting in one, and it’s every bit as womb-cozy as advertised. So why don’t I own one? Because they tend to cost somewhere on the order of $4,000-$10,000, depending on how rare of a vintage you’re looking for. But once a year, Design Within Reach puts them on sale, and this week is that once a year. We know what you’re thinking: “Only 15% off?!” But “only 15% off” of six grand is nearly a grand in itself, so if you’ve been contemplating the purchase for a while, now is the time to finally bite the bullet.

Black Friday shopping is the spiritual equivalent of ordering 10 shots at a bar. It seems like a good idea! Money has suddenly lost all semblance of meaning! Everyone’s egging you on … screw it! Only difference? Here your purchase can give you years of good use instead of a groaning headache. Levi’s is having a bonkers sale right now (40% off with code INDIGO) and in a total “screw it” spirit I’m throwing two Sherpa Truckers in my cart. I can’t decide on either color, and with that discount the total is only $25 more than one jacket usually goes for. I’ll drink to that.
