My best workouts always involve some form of distraction. I’ll play a podcast during a long run. Or queue up a banger on the bench press. It helps me ignore the discomfort and lock in.

For years, when the primary type of in-ear headphone was that kind they still hand out in airplanes with the long cable, I’d spend too much time untangling and readjusting the wire as I moved. Then the Powerbeats series dropped and solved the issue; I wore Powerbeats3s for over four years.

But this year, the folks at Beats outdid themselves. The Powerbeats Pro is the latest generation in sport earbuds, and it’s hard to imagine them improving much on this. Like Apple’s AirPods, they’re completely wireless and come with a charging port. But they loop over the ear, and are completely waterproof, so you can sweat away. I’ve been wearing them to the gym for a month and can confirm that they’re worth the upgrade from the Powerbeats3s.

The single issue with them, predictably, is that they’re crazy expensive at $250. Luckily, this time of year is ripe with deals on personal tech. For the next couple days at least, you can bring a pair home for $50 off.
