Apple Will Likely End iTunes, to the Relief of Everyone

The media player will be split into separate music, podcast and TV apps

iTunes is a mess and continues to get worse, says everybody (we even said so a few days back).

So it’s welcome news that the Cupertino tech company will be dividing up its rather bloated desktop media service into standalone Music, Movies and Podcast apps. An announcement will be made at Monday’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, according to a report at Bloomberg.

While Apple’s already separating each service on their tablets and phones — and their Podcast app isn’t a favorite of mine — this is a welcome change to their desktop environment. For Apple fans who use old iPods and iPhones, updates to iTunes should be around for awhile, according to 9to5Mac.

Other changes CEO Tim Cook is expected to announce on Monday revolve around product independence: Apple Watches less reliant on being paired with iPhones, iPads with updated software to lessen the need for a separate laptop and apps that run across multiple Apple devices. As well, there should be major updates to the company’s health apps and services, includes ways to track hearing health and an improved Sleep Mode.
