We Declare This Moonshine in a Can the Drink of Summer

By Kirk Miller

“Bring this to your next party, and everyone will remember it.”

That was our creative director’s first impression of Stillhouse, the moonshine — well, “clear corn whiskey” — that comes in a red gas can.

Besides great taste (seriously), Stillhouse also boasts a memorable story that connects the worlds of design, music and sports.

And it’s a story you can take with you this summer, whether you’re camping or festival-bound, thanks to Stillhouse’s new pocket-sized varietal, the Roadie.

Stillhouse was founded by Brad Beckerman, a sports-and-music entrepreneur turned distiller. “I like to say we’re not a spirits company — we’re building a lifestyle brand,” he says. “But it’s different to talk about it and actually do that.”

The company counts John Varvatos among its board members (“I vet all my creative decisions through him. He’s one of my closest friends,” says Beckerman) and musicians like G-Eazy, RZA and Gary Clark Jr. as fans.

The cans — which come in both original 750ml and now 375ml “Roadie” sizes — are crafted from 100% stainless steel with no welding (a patent-pending process). It’s virtually unbreakable, stacks well and keeps things cold. Oh, and that can’s red pantone is proprietary, too.

But let’s talk about what’s inside.

A non-aged, gluten-free, all-natural 100% corn whiskey that’s been charcoal filtered, it might be the first moonshine you’d want to drink neat. It’s sweet and smooth (Gold Award winning, too), and the flavored versions — don’t stop reading — were purposely designed for cocktails.

“You can use it in place of any clear spirit,” says Beckerman. “It’s great for any variation on a mule. The red hot works as a shot, or with cranberry or apple juice. The mint chip is great in a martini, but also works amazingly well in a Guinness — we call that the Paddy Mint. The apple crisp is good with ginger ale, and the coconut with Coke or pineapple juice. Oh, and the peach tea makes the baddest Arnold Palmer you’ve ever had.”

So this is a fun booze. Bring it to parties. Your campground. Whatever music festival you can sneak a pocket-sized can into.

Makes for a memorable day.
