Your significant other would really like a bottle of Pappy 15 for Valentine’s Day (hint hint). And with a little smoke and mirrors — well, mainly smoke — we can make that happen.
Pappy Van Winkle Barrel Fermented Cigars arrive in a Churchill-sized (7 x 48) box of 10 100% long-filler, premium cigars made by hand at the Drew Estate in Nicaragua. The whiskey connection? Besides the image of founder Julian Van Winkle with a cigar in mouth adorning Pappy’s whiskey bottles, some of the tobacco used here is Kentucky-grown, then fire-cured and bourbon barrel-fermented. The cigar also features a barrel-fermented “tapa negra”-style wrapper over a Mexican San Andres base wrapper, along with aged Nicaraguan filler tobaccos.
These “medium plus” strength cigars are apparently well-rounded and hearty, and designed specifically to pair with their namesake whiskey (guess you’ll need a bottle of Pappy). One recent review noted the cigars deliver a mix of “mocha, cedar and … bourbon sweetness,” with a bit of a campfire and cedar spice on the end.
A much-in-demand box of 10 is currently $170 and, no surprise, there’s a wait list — backorders will resume on February 6th.
And if you’re gonna pair it with a bottle of Pappy, here’s our guide to locating one.
