A simple salad dressing has taken the internet by storm this week after sending Jason Sudeikis into a tailspin in the ever-unfolding drama between him and ex-partner Olivia Wilde. If you’re not up-to-date on the commotion, it all started when — according to the former couple’s nanny — Sudeikis laid down under Wilde’s car to prevent her from leaving with her “special salad dressing” to go have dinner with new beau Harry Styles.
Then, in her Instagram stories on Tuesday night, Wilde posted an excerpt from Nora Ephron’s 1983 novel Heartburn — which is based on the author’s own divorce — that outlines a salad dressing she makes for her husband. It reads: “Mix 2 tablespoons Grey Poupon mustard with 2 tablespoons good red wine vinegar. Then, whisk constantly with a fork, slowly add 6 tablespoons olive oil, until the vinaigrette is thick and creamy; this makes a very strong vinaigrette that’s perfect for salad greens like arugula and watercress and endive.”
Now, Grey Poupon is throwing itself into the drama by creating 100 limited-edition “Don’t Worry Dijon” jars. The jar’s promo artwork features a feather boa, nodding to one of Harry Styles’ favorite accessories, and the recipe of the infamous dressing is printed on the back label. Though the jars haven’t been released yet, interested parties can follow along on Grey Poupon’s Instagram to see how they can get their hands on one in the coming days.
Now I’m a big fan of Grey Poupon and dijon mustard in general, but it seems awfully silly to manufacture an entirely new jar just to reference a celebrity feud. Has the world become one big publicity stunt? All I know is I’ve lost my appetite for salad for the foreseeable future.
