This year, we’d like to begin by talking about values.
Specifically, about the qualities we appreciate most in the places we drink, and with whom we do the drinking.
So to get things off on the right tipple, we’d like to introduce you to the Bower Hill Society, a club of deliberate imbibers who bring likeminded folks together for “rare, unique and local spirits and unexpected conversation” in Brooklyn.
Run by DUMBO execs who appreciate booze and discourse in equal measure, BHS meets in a massive, loft-style office boasting a handmade bar built from salvaged wood and postcard views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.
BHS gatherings run every few weeks — think tastings of Macallan Fine Oak and Sherry Oak guided by brand ambassador Charles Whitfield. Or tutorials on Brooklyn’s own Owney’s Rum led by their distiller. All with bites like boozy cupcakes by Prohibition Bakery.
BHS’s next event is “Blue Ridge Terroir: The Whiskys of Virginia Distillery Company,” where attendees will enjoy drinks mixed with mason jar cocktail shakers, which are also available for purchase — “a worthwhile investment,” the club says, “for rustic fetishist hipsters and unaffected cocktail purists alike.”
The cost for an evening of good company and good drink is $35 cheap.
That’s the type of value we’re talking about.
