Though it is months until Daniel Craig’s last tour of duty as 007 hits theaters, we got our first real glimpse of what his James Bond swan song will look like when the trailer dropped earlier today.
In No Time to Die, Craig — who has played Bond four times before in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre— begins the film in retirement with Bond enjoying a quiet life in Jamaica.
However, the tranquility in director Cary Joji Fukunaga’s film doesn’t last long.
“The peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help,” according to an official release. “The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.”
Here’s the trailer:
In addition to Craig, the new film also stars Rami Malek, Léa Seydoux, Lashana Lynch, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, with Jeffrey Wright, with Christoph Waltz and Ralph Fiennes.
Interestingly, Lynch, a British actress, actually begins the film with Bond’s iconic 007 codename.
“There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, ‘Come in 007,’ and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman,” sources told the Mail on Sunday. “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007.”
No Time to Die will open in theaters nationwide on April 8, 2020.
