What, exactly, Michael Jordan has been drinking during The Last Dance has been a topic of furious debate in internet circles over the last 10 days. (Mostly because we have nothing else to argue about, admittedly.)
Given the glass, it’s probably whiskey. But there’s a chance it could also be Cincoro, the luxury tequila brand co-founded by co-founded by Jordan, Jeanie Buss of the Los Angeles Lakers, Wes Edens of the Milwaukee Bucks, and Wyc Grousbeck and Emilia Fazzalari of the Boston Celtics.
It was our favorite tequila of 2019 — inconveniently tall bottle design aside. As I wrote then, “I thoroughly enjoyed all four expressions, including the añejo — which also did quite well in real competition. The blanco showcased the complexity of the agave, sourced both from private farms in the San Miguel el Alto highlands and the El Arenal lowland regions of Jalisco, slow-cooked and distilled separately and then mixed together. The reposado — a range I typically find uninteresting — was distinct. And that añejo works as an ideal winter sipper or a replacement for whiskey in drinks like an Old Fashioned.”
Keeping with what’s going on in the world, Jordan’s tequila just launched a #ToastYourTeam initiative on Instagram (with help from the Restaurant Strong Fund and United States Bartenders’ Guild Bartender Emergency Assistance Program), where participants who include @CincoroTequila and #ToastYourTeam in their posts to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter can choose which charity they want Cincoro to donate $10 (update: $20!) to on their behalf, with Cincoro pledging up to $100,000 of donations through this campaign. The campaign will continue to be promoted each of the next three Sundays during new episodes of The Last Dance.
Additionally, 30% of all online proceeds from Cincoro’s new direct ordering site are being donated to the US Bartenders’ Guild Emergency Assistance Program through May 1st, with free shipping on all orders.
